Citizen's Grievance or Request for Service Policy

If resident or taxpayer wants to make a specific request as to services provided by the Town of Barnes; or if resident or taxpayer wants to file a grievance against the Town or its Employees, the proper form, link below, should be completed by the person or persons making the request or wishing to file a grievance. The form must be completed in full, signed and dated before being accepted by the Town Clerk's office.

Upon receipt of the completed and signed form, a copy of the form shall be given to the proper Department Head or to the Town Board, with the original being on file in the Town Clerk's office.

A Request for Service shall be reviewed by the proper Department Head.  This review may include site visits, phone calls, or further contact with the petitioner in order to respond to the Request for Service. A response should be received within 30 days of the receipt of the Request for Service.

A grievance filed against the Town or its Employees will be reviewed by the proper Department Head or the Town Board. This review will include notification to the Town Board, Town Employee or Department Head named in the grievance. A copy of the grievance will be sent to the Town Attorney and the Town's Insurance Company if necessary.  Depending on the nature of the grievance, the matter may necessitate a closed session. A response to a grievance filed against the Town or its Employees shall follow the normal course of law.
